BUILDING MATERIAL

During the project design phase it is important to keep the following factors in mind:

Location:

Is it difficult to access the site? What is the best mode of transport to deliver material to the site? Often the logistics cost is higher than the actual material cost. If this is the case, choose material that is shipping friendly, easy to load and offload, stackable to minimize empty areas in the container.

Oxidation levels

To justify big price differences between passivized, zinc plated or stainless steel fixings is very difficult. Many completed projects have extremely high maintenance bills due to “cheap”, poor quality or the wrong type of fixings chosen. Corrosion is one of the biggest factors to get overlooked. Often if the correct material was chosen in the construction phase there would’ve been much less maintenance to do over the years.

When choosing items like generators and air conditioners, make sure there is good after sale service and replacement parts are available should anything go wrong.
